The Chronicles of Western Astrology

March 8th, 2009

western-astrologyFor most poets, night is the association of a lady dressed in a black closet and bejeweled with glowing diamonds. However, the shining stars in the dazzling black night with other celestial bodies are more than just the novelty of the sky.

Astrologers for century have studies the sky looking for stars and planetary activities to have effect on people’s daily lives on earth.

Most say western countries are far more advanced to believe this myth of stars having impact on lives on earth, but the truth is there are vast stories behind astrology in the western part of the world. In ancient times, astrology was practices only for the royal bloods, and thus placed astrologers in their respected levels. If ever an astrologer brought ay bad news for the royal families, these poor astrologers had their heads cut off.

Western astrology started somewhat 2500 BC in the ancient Mesopotamia and found its way to the olden streets of Greece. Astrologers thrived in the world from that time with the emergence of Greek philosophers like Socrates, Plato and Aristotle.

While one of Aristotle’s philosophy students Alexander the Great went on colonizing different parts of the world, he redistribute the Greek philosophy and way of life.  After that in a span of three hundred years, it was Egypt who showed much of a response to Alexander conquests and made the greatest influence towards philosophy.

Astrology has after then become a particular center of scholarly learning and accepted by the far most thinkers of the era. The well known astrologer Ptolemy has taught people not only to study sky, but to make mathematically incline astronomy. This joint venture of astrology is now what we know as horoscope and Zodiac signs.

After a several hundred years when people interpreted the power of astrology, they have gone underground to give a thought to their powerful believes of the Christian Church in the middle Ages. They have practiced astrology with their full minds maintaining a low profile as astrology was declared unorthodox at that times. Fortunately after a few years after the Renaissance period, the revival of Greek and Neo-Platonic researches bought back western astrology. Marsilio Ficino was known as one of the strongest astrologer and alchemist of his age.

Unfortunately, astrology was cut short due to the arrival of the Age of Enlightment when the paradigm shift differentiated astrology and astronomy apart. AT that time, physical science took its greatest belief and astrology to be a mere supernatural art.

Astrology was then reviled at the start of 20th century and was made primarily due to the efforts and inspiring works of the astrologers like Sepharial and Alan Leo. They are also called the pioneers of the Astrological lodge of the theosophical society in Great Britain. From then, western technology flourished and become popular and important in the everyday lives of peoples.

The astrological belief in the current age includes Sun Sign astrology, karma, reinsertion and the daily horoscope.

Astrology has become a group discussion in the everyday lingo of current time. It was not until in 1930 when Paul Clancy started publishing the “American Astrology” magazine that opened peoples mind about astrology in a wide view. Highly respected astrologer Dane Rudyard who first started writing horoscope under the twelve astrological signs. The horoscope from them started to be a part of everyday newspapers, magazines and in the daily activates of men.
The history of western astrology survived a long years, supernatural but is yet down earth spirituality.
